JOANNE, LACY KNITTED TUNIC TOP
One of my design signatures is the juxtaposition of textures. Here is a knitted example, a tunic top to throw over a strappy top or polo neck. The alternating lacy and heavier yarn result in a lovely drape on the body and give a seductive glimpse of skin through the lace.
Add it over the top of a fitted dress, or over a plain skirt or trousers.
This knitted top is part of a collection resulting from a collaboration with a small artisanal business in Cape Town, South Africa. Cowgirlblues was created by Bridget Henderson, a passionate knitter like myself, to fulfill her dream of starting a social enterprise in her home country of South Africa, and to share the wonderful qualities of merino, mohair and silk available locally. These fibres are dyed by hand in an incredible range of colours, and then turned into balls for knitting or crocheting, as well as into clothing. She bought old domestic knitting machines from the 70s and trained her employees to use them. We worked together on design ideas I had, when I was in Cape Town in February / March of this year; here is the fruit of our collaboration!
